Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

The VIN of Citroen vehicles complies with the standard except for calculating the checksum in the 9th position of the VIN and indicating the model year in the 10th.

According to the requirements of the standard in the VIN, the year of manufacture is indicated by the 10th character. Not all manufacturers comply with this - explicitly, the year of issue in the VIN on the European market is not indicated on HONDA, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, MAZDA, Toyota, NISSAN cars. But models released for the North American market necessarily contain the model year in the 10th VIN character.
