2017 Honda Civic Si could have around 230 hp

Sources close to Honda that wish to remain anonymous have acquired some preliminary details about the warm Civic Type S.

Honda is working on a Type S version of the all-new Civic, but it won??™t be out for the 2016 model year as the guys from the CivicX forums have managed to find out it??™s going to be a 2017MY. It??™s scheduled to go on sale in the late fall 2016 - early spring 2017 interval.

Power is expected to come from a detuned version of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine of the Type R from where it will inherit many components. In this application, the engine will develop somewhere in the region of 220 - 230 hp and it will come exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.

As for the fully-fledged Civic Type R, the same source points towards a spring - summer 2017 market launch, but other details are not available at this point.

The Civic Type R will be commercially available in most of these markets, but not all of them. Keep in mind that it's not very clear which of the body styles will benefit from the Type R treatment, but the hatchback will get it for sure.

In the meantime, the regular Civic Sedan and Coupe will be a 2016MY and Honda apparently has plans to sell all three body styles (sedan, coupe, hatchback) in all markets.

Needless to say, these are just rumors at this point as Honda has not confirmed this piece of information.
