Should Opel get its own version of the Chevy Bolt?

A new render released by RM Design shows a potential Opel version of the forthcoming Chevrolet Bolt.

Back in March of this year, we heard a rumor about the possibility of seeing the Opel and Vauxhall badges on the Chevy Bolt and now Remco Meulendijk of RM Design decided to show how the Euro Bolt could look like. Serving as foundation for the attached speculative render were the spy shots that emerged at the beginning of the month showing an undisguised pre-production prototype.

This will likely happen eventually as Opel??™s CEO said a while back the R?sselsheim-based automaker will have a new EV on sale by the end of 2018. Some sources suggested it would be a Karl-based electric vehicle, but that??™s unlikely to happen as it would be too pricy for such a small car. That is why it makes more sense to simply rebadge the Bolt and sell it on the old continent. However, it is believed the Euro-spec Bolt will be available in limited quantities, at least initially.

As for the Michigan-built Chevy Bolt, it will show its production face next month at CES in Las Vegas and will cost approximately $30,000. It's going to be a 2017MY and will offer a maximum range of more than 200 miles (321 km). Chevy developed the model in collaboration with LG and will sell it only as a pure EV, unlike the BMW i3 which is also available with a range-extending engine.
