Volkswagen Golf GTD R under consideration?

Volkswagen's head of powertrain development, Dr Heinz-Jakob Neusser, recently confirmed the company is considering additional R variants and one of them could be an all-new Golf GTD R.

In an interview with Motoring, Volkswagen's Hanno Jelden said the Passat's new 2.0-liter TDI biturbo engine can be installed in the Golf. However, he noted "the issue is that is it the heaviest engine currently used in the [MBQ] platform."

As a refresher, the engine produces 240 PS (176 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed DSG transmission and an all-wheel drive system which enables the Passat to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds before hitting a top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph).
