New record: Yangwang U9 Xtreme completes Nürburgring lap faster than any other production electric car
Following its record for maximum speed, the Chinese electric car BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme has set another record for the fastest lap time on the Nürburgring's “Nordschleife” circuit, beating the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra. However, it is still far from the absolute track record.
The record was set in the production electric car category and stands at 6 minutes 59.157 seconds. The car was driven by German racing driver Moritz Kranz, who has completed almost 10,000 laps on this track throughout his career. For comparison, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra completes the “Northern Loop” in 7 minutes 7.55 seconds, and the absolute record among production cars belongs to the Mercedes-AMG One hybrid — 6 minutes 29.090 seconds.
The Yangwang U9 Xtreme race took place on August 22, 2025, but the manufacturer has only now shared its results because the record took a long time to be certified. The publication also coincides with the start of orders for this car.
The electric car is built on a 1200 V architecture and has four electric motors that can rotate at a frequency of 30,000 rpm. The car's power reaches 3000 hp (1217 hp per ton). It also features the DiSus-X intelligent body control system, a redesigned track cooling system, a titanium alloy carbon-ceramic braking system, and GitiSport e·GTR² PRO semi-slick tires developed jointly by BYD and Giti.
The car is already available for order, although only 30 units will be produced. The price has not been disclosed, but in 2024, the cost of the “civilian” version of the car was $236,400.
