Yamaha has revealed a prototype hybrid motorcycle

Yamaha has unveiled a prototype SPHEV hybrid system designed for two-wheelers. The technology combines an internal combustion engine with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle and a motor-generator connected to the crankshaft.

The system works in several modes. At startup, the motorcycle uses electric traction exclusively, providing fast acceleration. Then the hybrid mode is activated, where the internal combustion engine is connected to boost power.

There are also two variants of boosted acceleration. The first is called Dual Boost, in which case the electric and gasoline motors work together for more dynamic acceleration. The second mode, Triple Boost, adds a motor-generator to their work, which directly transfers additional power to the crankshaft.

Yamaha has already tested the system's effectiveness in practice. The prototype reaches a speed of 90 km/h. However, it is still unknown whether this is the maximum speed, or the company will still finalize the technical part of the SPHEV.
