Xiaomi has lifted the SU7 Ultra's power lock on customer demand

For safety reasons, Xiaomi initially limited the speed of the SU7 Ultra sports car on a software level. However, customer outrage forced the manufacturer to abandon this approach.

According to the resource CarNesChina, the power of the SU7 Ultra delivered to customers was limited at 900 hp against the claimed 1,548 hp. To unlock the full performance of the car, owners had to perform a qualifying run on one of the company-approved race tracks, thereby confirming their driving skills.

In addition, firmware restrictions introduced a 60-second pause, only after the expiration of which the car could start from the spot as quickly as possible. So Xiaomi wanted to limit the likelihood of abrupt starts at stoplights.

A representative of Xiaomi Auto explained that all the restrictions were aimed at ensuring the safety of both the SU7 Ultra drivers themselves and other road users. The company also noted that the extreme driving style is only allowed on special tracks and given the appropriate experience.
However, some buyers who paid about $73,000 for the SU7 Ultra on the Chinese market expressed their dissatisfaction, wanting to get access to all the features of the car without additional tests for a considerable amount of money. As a result, the manufacturer still removed the power limit in the next firmware update, although it insists on observing restrictions in driving style off the racetrack.
