Volvo is preparing to unveil a car for those who are not ready to completely abandon the internal combustion engine. The new XC70 will be a transitional model, combining the advantages of electric and gasoline cars.

The model will be available in a hybrid version with the option of running on electric power alone. The claimed range in this mode is an impressive 200 kilometers according to the CLTC cycle, making the XC70 one of the most economical plug-in hybrids on the market.

Depending on the configuration, buyers will be able to choose a battery with a capacity of 21.2 or 36.9 kWh. This is even more than some fully electric city models such as the Fiat 500e or BYD Seagull. Additionally, the car will be equipped with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

Fast charging is also promised: 80% can be recharged in about 28 minutes. The XC70 is expected to feature bidirectional charging, which will allow the car to be used as a power source.

So far, the launch is planned exclusively for the Chinese market, but the company emphasizes that it does not rule out the release of the model in other regions.
