Volkswagen has announced its most affordable electric car
Volkswagen is preparing to unveil a new model that aims to make electric cars even more affordable. The company has released the first images of the compact ID.2, which will make its full debut on September 7 in Munich.
The ID.2 will be part of a new line of affordable electric cars. According to preliminary information, the hatchback will cost around €25,000 and will be positioned as a spacious Golf, but as affordable as a Polo. It will be followed by a crossover version, which will occupy a place below the ID.3 and ID.4.
The car is built on the new MEB+ platform, developed for budget electric cars. The hatchback will have two battery options — 38 and 56 kWh, which will provide a range of up to 450 km. The interior of the ID.2 has a new style with two large displays: a 12.9-inch multimedia display and a 10.9-inch instrument panel.
Unlike previous models, Volkswagen has added more physical buttons and modes styled after the Golf and Beetle models. Detailed specifications for the crossover have not yet been disclosed. Sales of the vehicle will begin next year.
