Toyota has unveiled the GR LH2 Racing hydrogen concept car
Toyota Gazoo Racing, the motorsports division of the Japanese automaker, has demonstrated a prototype of the GR LH2 Racing Concept race car. Its debut took place at the 93rd 24-hour marathon in Le Mans. The concept car is designed to demonstrate the potential of liquid hydrogen in motorsports.
GR LH2 Racing is based on the GR010 hybrid car, which participates in the World Endurance Championship. The concept is equipped with a liquid hydrogen engine and is characterized by impressive dimensions: length 5100 mm, width 2050 mm. Unlike Toyota's past experiments with gaseous hydrogen, this one uses the more promising liquid hydrogen, which promises greater efficiency and range.
The company has been developing hydrogen technology in racing applications for several years, from experiments with the Corolla H2 in Japan's Super Taikyu series to the GR Yaris H2's demonstration runs at the WRC round in Belgium. The GR LH2 Racing entry at Le Mans was the next step - it is the first concept to showcase the possible future of an entire class of hydrogen cars on the prestigious circuit.
The GR LH2 Racing show was also part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Toyota's participation in Le Mans. In honor of this, the team presented special livery on the current GR010 cars - in retro and futuristic styles. And the concept itself will become a test platform for new hydrogen solutions in motorsport, where racing remains a key gas pedal of technological progress.
