Tesla has unexpectedly revised its plans to release an external battery that increases the range of the Cybertruck electric pickup truck. The manufacturer has notified users about this, some of whom have already managed to make an advance payment of $2000.

Cybertruck owners publish in social networks images of letters from Tesla. They say that the company will fully refund the amount paid. At the same time, the reason for canceling the release of the accessory is not disclosed. In addition, earlier the possibility to add an additional battery to the Cybertruck package when placing an order on the official website disappeared.

Initially, the release of the battery was scheduled for the beginning of 2025, and later moved to the middle of the year. With its help, the company sought to increase the range of the car - in reality, it turned out to be less than promised. Initially it was stated that depending on the configuration of the electric car will travel 250, 300 or 500 miles (402/482/805 km). After the start of deliveries it turned out that the Cybertruck in the top modification travels a maximum of 350 miles (563 km).

One of the possible reasons for the rejection of the additional battery is called low demand for the Cybertruck. Instead of the expected 250,000 to 500,000 units per year, Tesla has sold less than 50,000 in 15 months.
