The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Sets a New Record for Electric Cars
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT set a new record among production electric vehicles at the Nürburgring. Behind the wheel was the company’s test driver, Lars Kern, who improved his own 2023 record by a full 12 seconds.
The car’s main changes were in aerodynamics. Downforce more than tripled—from 95 to 310 pounds at 200 km/h. At a top speed of 308 km/h, total downforce reaches 740 kg.
The car received a new rear wing, redesigned diffusers, and carbon fiber aerodynamic discs on the rear wheels. It also features new 21-inch forged wheels, wider Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires, and larger brakes with discs.
The maximum discharge current has been increased from 1,100 to 1,300 amps, and power has risen from 580 to 600 kW, reaching 804 horsepower. Attack Mode now delivers up to 730 kW (978 horsepower) instead of the previous 700 kW. When Launch Control is activated, the car can deliver 760 kW or 1,019 horsepower.
The new record of 6:55.553 minutes was faster than the results of the BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme (6:59.157) and the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra (7:04.957).
