Porsche Wants to Create a Taycan-Panamera Hybrid
The Porsche team is considering the possibility of combining the company’s two sports models—the Panamera and the Taycan. The automaker is currently exploring the option of creating a unified lineup that will be offered with several engine types.
The plan calls for the next-generation model to be released in three variants: fully electric, PHEV hybrid, and a classic gasoline engine. However, it is not yet clear which name will remain, Taycan or Panamera.
Currently, the cars are built on different platforms: the Panamera uses the MSB architecture, shared with the Bentley Continental GT, while the Taycan is based on the J1 electric platform, which is also used in the Audi e-tron GT.
This proposed merger is part of an effort to cut costs following a review of the company’s electrification strategy. The company previously announced a €1.8 billion write-down due to the failure of the SSP platform and adjustments to its electric vehicle development plans.
