Nissan has officially announced the resumption of production of its iconic GT-R sports car. After the last R35 model rolled off the production line at the automaker's Tochigi plant in Japan, Nissan's CEO made it clear that the GT-R would be returning.

At this point, no final decisions have been made about the configuration of the future GT-R. However, Nissan North America Vice President Ponz Pandikutira previously stated that the next version will be a hybrid, not a fully electric vehicle.

Several years ago, Nissan unveiled the Hyper Force EV concept, an electric supercar with more than 1,300 horsepower (1,000 kW). Nissan recently partnered with LiCAP Technologies to mass-produce the batteries for it.

The first production electric vehicle with the new batteries is expected by 2028, which leaves the GT-R a chance to appear as a hybrid before that date. Meanwhile, competitors are already demonstrating the potential of electric supercars. For example, the Chinese BYD Yangwang U9 has set a new speed record among EVs.
