Mitsubishi is developing an electric car based on the Nissan LEAF
Mitsubishi aims to strengthen its position in North America with a new electric car that will be closely related to the third-generation Nissan LEAF. The model has already been spotted during testing and looks almost identical to the original.
In terms of specifications, it is expected to feature a 75 kWh battery and a front-mounted electric motor with 174 horsepower, with a range of up to 487 kilometers. It is also expected to include a NACS port, allowing the car to be charged at Tesla Supercharger stations.
Nissan recently discontinued the more affordable version of the LEAF with a 52 kWh battery, citing low demand. Therefore, the Mitsubishi model will likely not offer any lower-spec versions either.
The official launch of the new model is scheduled for summer 2026. If we take the LEAF as a reference—with a starting price below $30,000—the new Mitsubishi could become one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the U.S. and Canadian markets.
