The Mercedes-Benz CLA electric car has become a record holder for daily mileage
A prototype of the future Mercedes-Benz CLA has set a world record for the longest 24-hour electric vehicle run. The pilot's task was to drive as many kilometers as possible in 24 hours. The record was set despite 40 stops for recharging.
As a result, the record result was 3717 kilometers at an average speed of 154.9 km/h. The tests were conducted on the Nardo highway in Italy. During the race, the car was recharged 40 times for 10 minutes. On a full charge it travels 750 kilometers (according to WLTP calculations) and spends about 12 kWh per 100 kilometers.
Inside, a proprietary electric wheel drive system is installed. The car is equipped with one or two permanent magnet synchronous motors, a silicon carbide (SiC) inverter and will be available in all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive versions, depending on the equipment.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA is built on an 800-volt platform and supports 320-kilowatt charging. According to the manufacturer, it provides a charge in 10 minutes, which is enough for 300 kilometers of travel. One of the mechanisms for increasing range is the all-wheel drive disconnect unit. It reduces power consumption at the front axle by 90%.
