Livian has unveiled the tiny Smurf electric car for $5,000.
China is preparing to release an unusual electric car called the Livian Smurf EV. The compact car looks like a toy, but it is a real vehicle priced at only $5,000 and designed for city driving.
Livian Auto is a subsidiary brand of Geely, created in 2022 to develop fast battery replacement technology. The Smurf model is radically different from other cars of the brand: it is only 3.1 meters long, 1.55 meters wide, and 1.61 meters high. Even next to the Fiat 500e, it looks like a toy.
On the outside, the car stands out with its “elf-eye” headlights and rear lights in the same “fantasy” style. Inside, it is minimalist with a large touchscreen and a separate display for the driver. According to CarNewsChina, the Smurf will have a 40 horsepower electric motor and a 17 kWh battery, providing up to 200 km of range.
The price is expected to be around 36,000 yuan (about $5,000). This will make the Smurf a competitor to ultra-cheap city electric cars such as the Hongguang Mini EV and Bestune Pony. The launch date has not yet been announced, but Livian promises to make an announcement soon.
