Honda's hypercar has been converted into the fastest police car ever built
In the Japanese prefecture of Mie, where the famous Suzuka Circuit race track is located, the police have added an unusual patrol car - a Honda NSX - to their fleet. The 573-horsepower hybrid supercar was donated to the law enforcement service by a local businessman.
The modified NSX is estimated to cost 25 million yen or $175,000. Inside, it has a 3.5-liter V6 Twin-Turbo engine and three electric motors. The hypercar received an official police livery with a chrysanthemum, the symbol of Japanese law enforcement.
Back in the 1970s, Japanese police had to equip their units with powerful cars such as the Nissan GT-R and Toyota Soarer to stand up to street racers. Modern police units continue this tradition, although street racing is no longer as prevalent today.
Honda NSX can be used not only for demonstration purposes, but also for real operations. For example, the Italian police uses the Lamborghini Huracan for emergency delivery of medical organs. It is not yet known how often the NSX will go on missions.
