Geely Outpaces BYD in EV Charging Speed

Chinese companies continue to compete not only in electric vehicle range but also in charging speed. Geely-owned brand Lynk & Co has unveiled a new battery capable of charging faster than existing BYD solutions.

The 900V Energee Golden Brick battery reached a peak power of 1,100 kW, and charging from 10% to 70% took just 4 minutes and 22 seconds. It takes 5 minutes and 32 seconds to reach 80%, and just 8 minutes and 42 seconds to reach 97%. After 80%, the power remained above 500 kW. Testing was conducted at Zeekr V4 charging stations.

For comparison, BYD’s fastest 5-minute charge replenishes from 10% to 70%, while charging from 10% to 97% takes 9 minutes.

According to available information, Geely’s network currently includes 2,103 stations and 10,212 charging systems across 215 cities. The chargers themselves use liquid cooling to operate at high power. BYD, in turn, has already installed 5,000 megawatt stations and plans to increase that number to 20,000.
