Ford has made the Mustang Mach-E front trunk a paid option
Buyers of the new electric Mustang Mach-E have been deprived of a standard option. A feature that was previously considered an integral part of the car is now available for an additional fee. We are referring to the front trunk, which has surprised buyers.
In the 2026 model, it is no longer included in the basic configuration. To access it, buyers now need to select a $495 option when ordering the car.
The feature is located in the exterior options section alongside items such as bumper protection, a tire inflation kit, and a license plate mount. The price of the 2026 Mustang Mach-E itself starts at $39,840 without any options.
Until 2025, the front trunk was a standard feature on all Mustang Mach-Es. However, Ford is not the first company to start selling an existing feature separately.
BMW was previously criticized for offering seat heating as a subscription feature as part of its Functions on Demand system.
