Chevy Silverado sets range record among electric cars
General Motors has announced that it has set a new world record for the longest distance traveled on a single charge. The Chevy Silverado EV electric pickup truck covered 1,705 km without recharging. The test lasted seven days and took place on public roads near GM's test facility in Milford.
The record was set on a 2026 Silverado EV Work Truck model, officially rated for a range of 793 km by the EPA. The vehicle used “smart driving techniques,” including driving at speeds of 32-40 km/h. In addition, GM engineers applied a number of tricks and made several modifications.
They removed the spare tire, increased tire pressure, optimized wheel alignment, and added a body cover to reduce aerodynamic drag. Experts also turned off climate control and took advantage of optimal weather conditions to improve battery efficiency.
Although GM does not intend to apply for inclusion in the Guinness Book of Records, the result has already attracted attention. Previously, the record belonged to the Lucid Air Grand Touring, which covered 1,205 km. Before that, the title was held by the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ with a result of 1,044 km.
