Toyota unveils competitor to Bentley and other luxury brands
At the Japan Mobility Show, Toyota surprised the public with its luxury Century Coupe concept car. The vehicle has become a symbol of a new direction in which the Japanese automaker intends to compete with Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
Century is a separate brand created on the initiative of Chairman of the Board Akio Toyoda. It is intended to occupy a niche above Lexus. The first model is the Century Coupe Concept, a grand tourer with a long hood and sliding doors.
The interior of the car is handcrafted. Engineers have provided the option of turning the seat towards the door.
Technical details have not yet been disclosed. The coupe is expected to be equipped with either a 5.0-liter V8 engine, like the Century sedan, or a hybrid 3.5-liter V6, like the SUV version. The price is expected to exceed $200,000. So far, sales are planned only in Japan.
