BYD Unveils Electric Sedan with a Range of Up to 1,000 km and 5-Minute Charging
China’s BYD has unveiled its new flagship electric sedan, the Seal 08, which boasts some very ambitious specifications. The model’s main feature is the new-generation Blade Battery 2.0, capable of providing a range of over 1,000 kilometers.
The car is built on an 800-volt architecture and features the second generation of the company’s proprietary lithium-iron-phosphate battery. It will also utilize ultra-fast charging technology, allowing the car to regain up to 400 kilometers of range in just 5 minutes.
Even at temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius, the battery can be charged from 20% to 97% in approximately 12 minutes. For BYD, this is the first large sedan to feature both the new battery and the megawatt charging system.
In the top-of-the-line all-wheel-drive version, the Seal 08 is equipped with two electric motors with a combined output of 510 kW or 684 horsepower. The top speed reaches 240 km/h. The body length is 5,150 mm, and the wheelbase is 3,030 mm.
The model also features DiSus-A adaptive air suspension and a roof-mounted lidar for the God’s Eye B semi-autonomous driving system. In terms of its specifications, the new model is aimed at competing with premium models such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS.
