BYD's new technology charges electric cars for a 470km journey in 5 minutes
BYD has announced a new platform for electric cars with a 1000-volt architecture, which allows the cars to be charged at an incredible speed. According to the company's founder Wang Chuanfu, electric cars on this platform will be able to travel 470 kilometers after five minutes of recharging.
Electric cars based on BYD's new platform will be able to accelerate to 100 km/h in just two seconds, putting them among the fastest cars on the market. However, the manufacturer will have to work on creating the appropriate infrastructure for such electric cars.
The technology involves charging at a significantly faster rate than the Tesla Supercharger, which can replenish a range of 275 kilometers in 15 minutes. However, Tesla is still the leader in infrastructure rollout, offering more than 65,000 Supercharger stations worldwide.
To support the new technology, BYD plans to install more than 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations across China. The BYD Han L and Tang L models will be the first with Super e-Platform support.
