BMW is preparing to “retire” the current generation of the gasoline-powered BMW M3 sports car. The G80 model, which has been in production since 2020, will end its life cycle in 2027. The final version will be the limited-edition BMW M3 CS Handschalter with a manual transmission.

According to BMWBlog, production of the gasoline-powered M3 could end as early as February 2027. However, the company does not intend to abandon the M3 entirely: it will be replaced by an electric version. The new BMW M3 EV is already undergoing road testing, and its official premiere is expected next year. The car will be built on the Neue Klasse platform with M eDrive architecture and the Gen6 system. According to BMW, the new electric platform provides approximately 30% more range and 30% faster charging compared to the brand’s previous generation of electric vehicles.

The main feature of the electric M3 will be a system of four electric motors—one for each wheel. Their operation will be controlled by dedicated M Dynamic Performance Control software, which manages torque distribution and the car’s handling in corners. According to preliminary data, the total power output will be around 800–900 hp. For comparison: the current gasoline-powered M3 CS delivers 473 hp from a turbocharged inline-six.
