The electric BMW iX3 managed to travel over 1,000 km on a single charge.
BMW decided to show that its new generation of electric cars is not just another update, but a real technological breakthrough. The BMW iX3 electric crossover covered over 1,000 km without recharging, arriving at the finish line with a reserve of range. For the company, this is a symbolic start to a new era promising long ranges and ultra-fast charging.
The experiment took place on a route from the factory in Debrecen (Hungary) to the BMW Welt headquarters in Munich. To get the most out of it, the test team took an energy-efficient route, avoiding highways and minimizing fuel consumption. For the sake of purity of the experiment, climate control, heating, and music were turned off at some point. The result was 1,007.7 km without stopping to recharge, which significantly exceeds the claimed 800 km according to the WLTP cycle.
In addition to the mileage record, BMW is also betting on charging speed: the 800-volt architecture allows the new iX3 to accept up to 400 kW, which has been confirmed by real-world tests.
Sales of the crossover will start in Europe in early 2026 at a price of €68,900, then in the middle of the year, the iX3 will appear in the US at approximately $60,000. Later in 2027, the lineup will be expanded with more affordable versions of the iX3 40, which will cost less than $55,000 and have a range of about 480 km.
